Summer Program Descriptions

PADDLlNG PROGRAM (3 hrs)

Our Paddle Program offers an all around paddling experience. The program is geared to a two-week session. We feel that participants have the opportunity to experience all facets of paddling and become comfortable in the racing boats over this period of time. On water activities include paddling in recreation canoes, sprint racing canoes and kayaks, and the 14 person sprint war canoe. Basic water safety is covered along with all the basics of the equipment and strokes and skills for the various boats.

The day program is supervised by the Head Paddling Coach Natalie Frenette and her assistant coaches. Each weekÕs lessons follow the guidelines of the Canoekids program and will focus on the training stages and objectives created by the Canoe Kayak CanadaÕs Long Term Athlete Development Plan

DRYLAND PROGRAM (3 hrs)

Dry land activities will make up the remainder of the day. The emphasis is on active games and events in and around the Clubhouse. Fundamental movement skills Ð agility, balance, co-ordination Ð and fundamental sport skills Ð running, jumping, throwing, kicking, catching, and swimming Ð are the basis for all other sports. The foundation of our dry land program comes from a philosophy based on individuals who are competent in the basic movement skills by participating in a range of sports will have greater opportunities for athletic success and life-long enjoyment of physical activity.

Kiddie Kanoe (Ages 5-7 years old)

A fun way to introduce your child to the sport of paddling. Sessions are held three times per week. Our coaches will introduce participants to basic water safety and in very stable canoes and kayaks.

High Performance

This is for youth who have achieved a high level of skill in small boats and have a high commitment to the sport of paddling. Participants will be performing at a competitive level at the local and national regattas. As well as two sessions per day in small boats, there will be practices in war canoe and emphasis on fitness and technique. Instruction will be by experienced coaches based on ability.
